Owner & Pharmacist

Dr. Trevor Thain has been Pharmacist and Owner of Topeka Pharmacy since 2018. He grew up in Fort Wayne but worked at Topeka Pharmacy as a high school kid in 2009. He worked for Tom and Morag Miller and fell in love with the community here. Trevor graduated from Purdue in 2017 with a doctorate in Pharmacy. While there, he met his now wife, Cassie, who received her doctorate in pharmacy there as well in 2018. They moved into town shortly after and have loved every minute of it! Trevor currently serves on the Parkview Lagrange Hospital Board, the Lagrange County Community Foundation, the Community Health Clinic Research and Ethics Committee, and the Westview Student Health Advisory panel. He has also served as the Indiana Pharmacy Association’s independent pharmacy academy president for two years, remaining as a highly involved member. At the start of 2024, Trevor and Cassie began raising their family in the Topeka Community! In his free time, Trevor enjoys playing games, golfing, kayaking, and if Purdue can win a sporting event, that’s not a bad deal either! If you can’t find him at the pharmacy counter, he is more than likely out answering questions, in the office doing some of the behind the scenes work, out serving the community or meeting with legislators and organizations to try to improve access to medication for people.

Owner & Pharmacist

Dr. Cassie Thain is pharmacist and owner of Topeka Pharmacy. She grew up across Northwest Indiana (Merrillville, Hobart, Crown Point, Michigan City). After graduating from Crown Point High School, she attended Purdue University Calumet and received her bachelor’s degree in Biology in 2014. Following graduation, Cassie was accepted into Purdue University’s Doctor of Pharmacy program. During that time, she joined a Professional Co-Ed Fraternity, Phi Delta Chi, where she met her husband, Trevor. Throughout pharmacy school she interned at Meijer Pharmacy and spent time at Topeka Pharmacy during school breaks. Cassie began working full time at Topeka Pharmacy in August 2020. Cassie wears many hats around the pharmacy. She manages the front counter staff, maintains the salesfloor, arranges flowers, and works on the pharmacy bench. One of Cassies favorite parts about working at Topeka Pharmacy is the number of opportunities there are to explore new avenues of pharmacy. She has found a passion in counseling on over-the-counter medications and supplements. Cassie would like to use her knowledge and hopes to one day offer sleep-hygiene consultations, basic first-aid lectures, and maternity support classes. Outside of work, she enjoys playing board games with her husband, their friends, and family, cuddling with her cats, and learning how to garden. At the start of 2024, Trevor and Cassie began raising their family in the Topeka Community!

Clinical Pharmacy Manager

Dr. Hannah Smith received her PharmD from Purdue in 2014. She is the Clinical Pharmacy Manager and Diabetes Education Clinic Coordinator here at Topeka Pharmacy. She grew up in the neighboring town of Middlebury, Indiana, and has generations of family living in the greater Topeka area. Like many of her patients and their families, she’s had loved ones with chronic diseases. She observed the power of medications in improving lives at a young age and is fully devoted to serving her community as a medication expert. Fun fact: Hannah was Topeka Pharmacy’s first student in 2013, and she never left! She attributes many of her personal and professional attributes to past owners, Tom and Morag Miller, and is so thankful for the opportunity to continue the legacy alongside current owners, Trevor and Cassie Thain. Some of Hannah’s greatest career accomplishments include uniting 19 pharmacies across the state for acceptance into the Grant-Funded, Community Pharmacy Enhanced Services Network (CPESN) Flip-the-Pharmacy (FtP) program, guiding five pharmacy graduates through residency training, and assisting Topeka Pharmacy in becoming a state-recognized vaccine destination. She was honored to receive the Donald L. Moore Independent Pharmacist of the Year award from the Indiana Pharmacy Association in 2020. In her spare time, Hannah enjoys cooking (her love language), travel, and spending time with her husband, Tyler, and fur-baby, Brees.

Pharmacist

Shelly Hetler is one of our pharmacists born and raised in Monroeville, IN. In 1995, Shelly graduated from Purdue University with a bachelors in science in pharmacy. After she graduated, she worked at retail chains, both Kroger and CVS, for 28 years. Shelly has been married to her husband, Steve, for 27 years. Together they have 2 children who are both pursuing degrees at Shelly’s alma mater. She has worked at Topeka Pharmacy as a pharmacist since December of 2022. Her favorite part about working here is the close knit and caring staff that are committed to serving the community and providing care to each patient who walks in the front door. Shelly enjoys counseling patients both on the bench for prescription medications and in the OTC sections of the store. She also enjoys immunizing and participating in the many vaccine clinics that the store sponsors. Outside of work, Shelly loves to spend time with her family, traveling to Purdue for ball games, reading, antiquing, and visiting the National Parks.

Pharmacist

Katie Thain, or Mama Thain, is one of our pharmacists from Fort Wayne, Indiana. She is always willing to jump in whenever we need a helping hand or bench coverage on any given day. She also participates in a lot of our vaccine clinics. Katie graduated from Purdue in 1988. As a child, Katie’s father owned a drug store. Now, her son Trevor owns a pharmacy. Because of this, she considers this pharmacy a second home. She truly enjoys small town pharmacy and helping people with their healthcare concerns. Outside of work, Katie is kept busy by her two grandbabies that were both born at the beginning of 2024.

Pharmacy Technician

Courtney Burke is one of our pharmacy technicians. She grew up in Ohio, but for the past 7 years she has resided in Goshen, Indiana. Courtney has been a pharmacy technician for 7 years and has been a member of our team for 3 years. Her favorite part of working at Topeka is the small and caring community. She truly enjoys helping others and getting to know people on a face-to-face basis that you can’t always get at chain pharmacies. At work, you can catch her filling medications, calling doctors, and working hard to sync your medications to decrease your trips to the pharmacy! Outside of work, Courtney is a dog mom to two pups and loves spending her free time with her family and friends.

Pharmacy Technician

Stacy Cochard is one of our incredible technicians here at Topeka Pharmacy. She has been a pharmacy technician since 2002 and is one of our nationally certified technician vaccinators. Stacy is from and currently resides in Kendallville, Indiana. Her favorite part about working at Topeka is the level of personal care we can give to our customers on a regular basis. Outside of work, Stacy is an avid antiquer and owns her own antique business! She also spends a lot of her free time playing with her grandbabies.

Pharmacy Technician

Donna Price is one of our pharmacy technicians on our team. She became a pharmacy tech in 1993. She has been here at Topeka Pharmacy for 15 years. She often thinks about retiring, but doesn’t want to leave all the “pharmily” and friends she’s made over the years. She really enjoys working and interacting with the community of Topeka, Indiana. In her personal life, she has been married to her husband, Bob, for 32 years and together they have a daughter, son, and 3 grandchildren!

Pharmacy Technician

Malcolm Morrison is one of our technicians. He is from California but currently lives in Topeka, Indiana. He has been a pharmacy technician for 1 year and began his journey right here at Topeka Pharmacy. Malcolm is also one of our nationally certified technician vaccinators. His favorite thing about working at Topeka is the community we get to be a part of and his co-workers. Outside of work, Malcolm is an avid wrestling fan, loves watching basketball, and plays video games in his downtime.

Pharmacy Technician

Maddie Tremaine is one of our pharmacy technicians from Fort Wayne, Indiana. She resides in Kendallville, Indiana with her parents and dog, Daisy Jane. She is currently working on her bachelor’s degree in human science with certificates in nutrition and disabilities. Maddie plans to transfer to Manchester University to study pharmacy and pharmacogenomics. Her passions within healthcare include one-on-one patient care and direct clinical care. She likes working at Topeka because of the people she works with and the patients at our pharmacy. She enjoys helping others in any way she can. In addition to being a pharmacy technician, Maddie was recently certified to give vaccinations. Her passions outside of work include reading, journaling, spending time with family, studying herbology, and watching a show or two.

Front Store Assistant Manager

Kayla LaForce works as both the front store assistant manager and sales floor coordinator. She began working at Topeka Pharmacy three years ago and has been a member of our team ever since. She married her husband 14 years ago, and together they have an 8 year old son. Kayla grew up in Anderson, Indiana but moved up north to this area after graduating high school in 2006. In addition to working in Topeka, she has also lived here for the past 3 years. She loves being a servant to our community and working with our patient population. When Kayla isn’t working, she loves hanging out with her husband and son, riding side by sides, watching her son play baseball and hanging out with family.

Registered Dietitian

Connie Lehman, a graduate of Purdue, has been a registered dietitian since 1982 and a certified diabetes care and education specialist since 2016. She has worked as a clinical dietitian, an outpatient dietitian and a diabetes educator. She has also owned a small fitness center and a custom picture framing business in the past. The midwest has always been her home, being raised in Ohio, Kansas and Iowa before coming to Indiana and meeting and marrying her husband of 42 years who was born and raised on a farm 1 mile from where they now live. They have two wonderful adult children. Although they have found homes for many rescue dogs over the years, they currently are enjoying their 3 cats and 3 backyard chickens. Helping adults improve their health and life in practical ways which increase their confidence in their own self-management is a passion of Connie’s. This passion is fueled by her faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She is a huge fan of the series The Chosen and is thrilled and challenged daily by the truths found in the Bible.
